About Waste Awareness Healthcare

CIWM's version of the Waste Awareness Certificate for those working within the healthcare industry.

• Learn how to save money by minimising waste
• Understand your legal requirements
• Gain knowledge, understanding and skills to improve the management of waste
• Understand basic health and safety requirements

Building on the standard version of the Waste Awareness Certificate, this version contextualises the main principles of the course into the healthcare sector where appropriate. This course will also specifically introduce:

• Definition of healthcare and clinical waste
• Auditing healthcare waste
• Waste segregation - including colour coding of bags and boxes
• Healthcare waste in the community
• Exemptions
• WEEE

This foundation level course is designed to introduce the above principles to staff of all levels - giving an insight into waste issues and responsibilities from the bottom up.
