Larac Wales Conference - Waste and Recycling Seminar Venue: Maesmawr Hall Hotel, CaerswsFollowing last year’s successful seminar which focused on all the elements that will need to be included for you to achieve the 70% target that the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has set you they have once again asked LARAC to organise another one-day seminar in conjunction with the WLGA. This year’s seminar focuses on legislative changes, commercial waste and effective campaigning. The morning session concentrates wholly on the multiplicity of changes happening in the legislative framework governing waste and recycling in Wales. Whilst normally we like these events to focus on examples of best practice in the delivery of recycling services, we make no apology for the very concentrated morning session that focuses on the myriad of changes that are happening from the Waste Framework directive right through to the Municipal Sector Plans. Because of the weighty content WAG thinks this is a must attend event for all Welsh LAs. The afternoon session then reverts to the practical and there are two presentations focusing on Commercial waste with the final two sessions on how to use the media effectively and the Wales’ national campaign.Ten places are being reserved for CIWM members in Wales on a first come first served basis. Please confirm your attendance to Colin Kirkby; LARAC, PO Box 28, Knighton, LD8 2WA by returning the form below or fax to 01544 267860 or via email: larac@btinternet.com. Please respond at the latest by Monday 31st May 2010. Presentations...

Cymru Wales and North West Joint Event - Schedule 2 Wastes Venue: Blakemere Craft Centre, Sandiway, Cheshire CW8 2EBSchedule 2 of the Controlled Waste Regulations (CWR) allows Waste Collection Authorities to charge for the collection of certain types of household waste. The CWR no longer fulfill their intended function, because the costs of disposing waste is escalating and there is no provision in legislation to allow waste collection authorities to charge disposal costs. DEFRA and the Welsh Assembly Government are currently reviewing the CWR and have held informal bilateral discussions with a number of stakeholders and government departments. In advance of the possible legislative changes this Open Meeting intends to explore the impact on and associated issues for waste collection authorities, private contractors and the third sector. For information and booking, please contact Jenny Watts (email below) Presentations...
